By sort of, I mean he killed things so fast that Act 5 Players 8 Hell felt like, oh, I'd say Act 1 Players 1 NM. I built 12 of them and one sort of stood out. I spent the last few days tinkering with the Necro. I hope not though, and i hope you can pump it higher than "Monster Level 4".Poison Necro in Players 8 Hell: Uh oh. Much like your Follower, once another player joins the game the monster difficulty will revert to what it should be and the mechanic will be turned off. I imagine in D3 this will also be the case. You could only do players 8 in a single player game. In D2, it was better to be partied in an actual game when you killed bosses vs Players 8, but you didnt have to share the drops with other players.
What to take from this for the new Monster Level mechanic in D3? EXP and damage will go up, drop rates are up in the air as to what the difference will be, and quality of drops will be unaffected. No difference of drop rates from champions or unique monsters.
With 3, 5, or 7 players, more drops from bosses. What this meant for drops is: more players, more drops. Quality of drops was unaffected by number of players in the game. If you were in a game and partied with real players instead of simulated players (there was the option to not join a party in a real game) the drops from bosses were even better based on how close party members were to you. Bosses had the chance to not drop anything, but 5 players in a game reduced that chance to 0.
More drops (from bosses) worked at every other player added, so the best ways to get the benefit without the added monster health/damage was 3, 5, and 7 players. It gave the monsters more health, you gained more exp for killing higher health monsters, and more drops were seen because drop were shared amongst every player. "Players 8" allowed players in single player, non-ladder games to increase the difficulty of the monsters as if there were more players in the game (8 was the max).
All you really need is the tid bits, as most of the article is the math behind it, and the new system will have its own numbers that will be released later.
